Club Policy

The Arkansas Wings Basketball Club was founded in 1980, as a Christian outreach whose mission it is to impact the lives of Arkansas' youth through the sport of basketball. It is our desire to provide opportunity for the development of the complete athlete. Our adult volunteers play an essential part of the process as role models, mentors, as well as coaches. Those who choose to volunteer are expected to set positive examples for our athletes.

Policy

  1. No person, player, or coach is more important than our mission, all members will be treated equally regardless of ability, race, religion, or social position.
  2. Each adult volunteer chosen to coach is a mentor and role model to the athletes. Coaches are expected to provide leadership, teach fundamental basketball skills, discipline, hard work and a positive attitude. Our teams will play hard, smart, and together.
  3. Coaches are selected based on devotion, character, ability, and attitude. We are proud of our history, which includes many of Arkansas' top high school and amateur coaches. (Leighton McCreary Arkansas State/Grand Canyon State, Clarence Finley - UALR, "Doc" Sadler - Westark/UTEP, Charles Ripley - Westark/Park, Grady Bean - Sacramento State/Northern Iowa, Bobby Vint - Arkansas/Texas A&M/Westark, Charles Barker - Middle Tennesee/Coppin State/Shorter College/Louisianna Tech/Kansas State).
  4. No member shall partake of alcohol at any club function. We realize that some adults may choose to drink socially but we will not do so in the presence of our athletes.
  5. We will not tolerate any form of substance abuse and will take every opportunity to speak out in opposition.
  6. We will take a leadership role in stressing the importance of academics in the development of the "complete athlete." If any athlete is in need of academic assistance please contact our director of community relations for further information. ACT/SAT test tutoring is available.
  7. Player selections will be made based on the athletes character and ability, we acknowledge that we are not social workers, players or coaches displaying attitudes which reflect negatively on the club will be asked to compete elsewhere.
  8. At no time will any tangible incentive be offered to prospective athletes. We will emphasize the values of playing for the most successful AAU club in Arkansas and one of the most recognized youth basketball programs in America. Be positive and avoid discussing other clubs in any negative way.
  9. The Wings Basketball Program acknowledges the importance of respecting junior high and high school coaches and parents when inviting prospective athletes to participate. It is our policy to make all contact through the coach and/or parents. School activities are not to be missed for AAU practice or games.
  10. All funds raised on behalf of the Arkansas Wings must be deposited in the Arkansas Amateur Basketball Foundation ( AABF) bank account in order to be tax deductible as well as maintain the accountability required as a 501 C3 not for profit organization. All expenses directly related to the operation of the club are tax deductible and may be reimbursed based on prior approval and available funds. These expenses include but are not limited to: uniforms, practice gear, travel, lodging, meals, telephone, entry fees, postage and tutorial expenses. All requests for reimbursement must be accompanied by the appropriate receipts.
  11. Coaches are responsible for maintaining and returning all team equipment provided. (Uniforms, basketballs, etcs)
  12. Appearance is critical to the image of the club, the proud tradition we have established will only be as good as you make it.
  13. Coaches of teams with players eligible to be recruited are expected to provide information to any college interested in recruiting the player. The recruiting process should be left to the family and high school coach whenever possible. We are very proud of the fact that 95% of the players who compete in our junior boys teams receive college scholarships.
  14. Our primary venue of competition will be AAU sanction events, however we are insured by the AAU in competition not sanctioned. AAU insurance is a secondary policy to the parents primary coverage and carries a $200.00 deductible. All coaches are also insured by their membership.
